Learning Together: Supporting greater transparency around challenges, ‘failures’ and lessons learned in media literacy delivery.
Helping organisations delivering media literacy interventions to evaluate impact and share that evidence with others is vital to helping the sector become more effective.
Ofcom already offers training and resources to equip professionals delivering media literacy interventions with knowledge and skills related to the evaluation process. This research was commissioned to help Ofcom understand how to create a culture where learning from those evaluations are shared between organisations and used to develop more effective interventions, as set out in Ofcom’s three-year media literacy strategy in 2024.
It is grounded in evidence from the social purpose sector that suggests organisations are often hesitant to openly share evaluation findings due to funding pressures, reputational concerns, and limited capacity or infrastructure. It is intended primarily for funders and commissioners, as well as social purpose organisations designing and delivering media literacy interventions, who play a key role in shaping evaluation practice and incentives across the sector.
