Currently Connected Nations is published twice a year.
The main report is typically released towards the end of the year, with an interim update in the spring.
Connected Nations reports from 2018 onwards can be accessed here.
For older data, you can refer to the main body of the older published reports, which can be found on the National Archives website linked from the above page.
Our Connected Nations Methodology Annex provides additional information on the criteria used to generate our output files (available here).
We provide separate data downloads for fixed broadband and mobile. The file title specifies whether it relates to fixed or mobile, and speed information is only available for fixed broadband.
Since 2020, we publish distinct data downloads:
- Fixed broadband coverage - offers details on maximum available speeds and accompanies every Connected Nations publication.
- Fixed broadband performance - provides speeds reported for active customer connections and full fibre take-up per local authority, this is published annually as part of the main report.
As of July 2024, we revised the methodology for collecting data for Connected Nations. This future-proofed approach allows us to gather data from a larger number of communication providers, though it may reduce specific information received from each.
Our Connected Nations Methodology Annex provides additional information on the criteria used to generate our output files (available here).
We consider our analysis to be sufficiently robust for providing overall average download speeds down to Local Authority level (as provided in our Interactive Report) but not for postcodes. We keep our data collection and publication under review.
