Ofcom’s mobile checker shows which network offers the best 4G or 5G signal where you need it most. Once you put in your postcode, you’ll get two sets of information:

Mast image Coverage. This shows whether a 4G/5G signal is available locally, either indoors or outdoors, and whether the signal is likely to be good or variable. The results are shown on a map so you can move around and zoom in.

Performance image Performance. This is the likelihood that you can stream video on your phone when you’re in your local area - that’s the district covered by the first bit of your postcode. We use dials to show this performance for each network. The next page shows where you are likely to get coverage with your provider and the performance scores of each provider where they have coverage in the area.

More information about our methodology can be found in our Frequently Asked Questions section.

Your mobile signal

The following factors can affect local mobile reception, so the results from this checker may not always reflect what you receive on the ground.

Mast image The power of your local mast, and how close you are to it.

Mountain image Hills, buildings, and trees, between you and the mobile mast.

Congestion image The capacity of the local mast and congestion in the network, particularly at peak times.

House imageWhich materials were used to make the building or vehicle you’re in.

Storm image Bad weather.

Phone imageThe quality of antenna in your phone.
